about

We've had the Legless Crabs and we've had Occult Character but we haven't had the two dive in together to make such an unholy noise... a sludgy lo-fi Skullf*** triumph.

REVIEW

There has been some great albums released this year on Metal Postcard records and this could well be my favourite or certainly up there with them , the sound of The Legless Crabs and occult character clashing and releasing their shared non conformity to quite wonderful effect , what does it soundlike i hear you ask , well take the sonic pop blast of JAMC mingled with the post punk danceetude of early New Order and the spellbindary automation of Add N to X all mingled with the spirit of the politcal folkery of Woody Guthrie and that sort of gives a brief outline.

What i like most aout this album is the outsiderness of it ,i think that what i like most about both artists is that they share the same spirit of being an outsider ,the only problem is being an outsider is that quite often you are left outside and not invited to the party or being a member to the club ,be it the lets sound like the Beatles/Byrds/ Love club or the power pop is the only club to be club .or attached to a trendy ,its hip to be on record label that releases vinyl and looks great but sound quite often unexciting and lack original thought ,a The king wears new clothes label ,it is on the label so must be good , well actually the lable is pretty crap actually and a middle aged fancy up.

So sadly this album will not get the attention it deserves as a lot of the fine releases released on Metal Postcard records do not get the attention they deserve maybe because it is a record label made up of a roster of forward thinking music is an art not a brand of soup to be formilic released to people who like that kind of soup so will but it knowing what it will sound like where the guitar solo will be that it will have a middle eight and the right amount of verses and choruses and will draw the influences from the past for people who love their music to sound like bands they love from the past .

The Legless Crabs and Occult Character obviously have influences but they are influenced by them and do not sound that much like them , they are music lovers so obviously like the great records and bands from the past ,they are not morons after all , they are artists with a forward thinking yearning a band with rock n roll spirit who actually get what makes rock n roll so great in the first place ,so will continue making great albums knowing few people will get to hear them , because they inhabit the spirit of true rock n roll and true rock n roll scares the establishment and the music business trust me is an establshment it is an invite only club ,if your face does not fit or not have the neccessary bank balance you are left outside with the occasional crumb thrown your way a pat the spastic on the head and watch him dance in the cold kind of way.
